New Orleans Saints Host High School Athletic Training Symposium

The New Orleans Saints Athletic Training Staff hosted the first annual high school athletic training symposium at the Saints facility this past weekend. The Saints Staff provided insight from a professional sports standpoint, had college athletic training curriculum directors from around the state to provide admission and scholarship information to prospective students.

In Sports Science Exchange #111, Assessing Hydration in the Laboratory and Field, Nina Stachenfeld explains that athletes competing or training for long-distance events must learn how to regulate their body fluids and electrolytes, because both dehydration and exercise-associated hyponatremia (EAH) can be dangerous during long-term exercise. There is large variability across individuals, so there is no single protocol for drinking or eating during exercise that will work for all athletes.
