Chargers and Rams to provide $200,000 to South Bay, Long Beach schools

The two Los Angeles NFL teams donated $50,000 each to the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation and Team HEAL on Saturday, July 20, during a presentation at Mira Costa High School, in Manhattan Beach. That money, part of the NFL Foundation’s Athletic Trainer Program, will help pay for full-time and part-time certified athletic trainers and other resources to high school football programs that lack them. The NFL Foundation will also donate a matching contribution of $100,000.

Longtime Packers athletic trainer Pepper Burruss retiring

Burruss has been with the Packers the last 26 years, after spending the first 16 years with the Jets. The 65-year-old Burruss was named the the NFL Physicians Society’s Outstanding NFL Athletic Trainer in 2012, and his staffs were twice named athletic training staff of the year. He has also represented Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society on the NFL’s head, neck and spine medical committee.​

Texans Donate $25,000 to 2019 NFL Athletic Trainer Initiative

The Houston Texans presented a $25,000 check to their partner, Houston Methodist Hospital, as part of the 2019 NFL Athletic Trainer Initiative, aimed to improve health and safety at every level of sport. The check was presented at the 2019 Play Safe: Sports Medicine Summit this past weekend. The conference, partnered by the Texans, Houston Methodist, and GE had over 175 athletic trainers in attendance, impacting over 125,000 student-athletes across the state of Texas.
