Leo Murphy
Cleveland Browns 1950-1989
Leo Murphy spent 40 seasons as an athletic trainer with the Cleveland Browns, 1950-1983 as the head athletic trainer. He held the title of Athletic Trainer Emeritus through the 1989 season along with his long-time assistant Bill Tessendorf who became head athletic trainer.
Leo was a 1947 graduate of The University of Notre Dame where he played basketball and baseball. Following college, he worked one year for the 1949 New York Yankees who won the World Series that season over the Brooklyn Dodgers. Leo became the Cleveland Browns athletic trainer in 1950 when the Browns won the NFL championship in his first season.

Leo is 83, and he and his wife Betty reside in Medina, Ohio.
